Clarence Eugene 'Gene' Rogers

      CARBONDALE, Ill. - Clarence Eugene "Gene" Rogers, 71, of rural Murphysboro, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, near Effingham, Ill., as a result of an automobile accident, which also killed his wife, Anne.

      Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, at First United Methodist Church in Carbondale, Ill., with the Rev. John R. Annable officiating. Burial will be in the Dongola American Legion Cemetery in Dongola, Ill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., today, at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Shirley Rogers Memorial Scholarship at South Illinois University at Carbondale, in the College of Education.

      Mr. Rogers was born April 11, 1933, in Charleston, Mo., to Irvin E. and Hattie Mae (Caysi) Rogers. He married Shirley Mae Sheffer in 1956, and she preceded him in death in 1990. He married Mabel Anne Atwood in 1992.
