Clifford Leroy Horak, age 85, of Riverside, Iowa, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Fr. Charles Fladung officiating. Calling hours will begin 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 23, 2018, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund or Sonshine Ministries in Washington. Cliff was born June 6, 1933 at his home in rural Riverside, Iowa, the son of Louis and Velma (Jardon) Horak. He attended Jackson Center rural school and graduated from Washington High School in 1952. Cliff was united in marriage to Mary Ann Janecek on November 9, 1963 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside, IA.
Cliff was born and lived on his family farm his entire life, which was named a Century Farm in 1997. He farmed the land with his son, James, for many years. Cliff belonged to Farm Bureau since the early 1950's. His interests included Labrador Retriever dogs, attending farm toy shows and auctions, studying family genealogy and histories of Washington, and collecting advertising pens and pencils. He enjoyed listening to gospel, country and polka music, and attended many dances while younger.
Survivors include his six children: Peg Rogers of Washington, IA; Cheryl Horak of Cedar Rapids, IA; Jon Horak and wife Lindsey of Wellman, IA; James Horak and wife Tammi of Riverside, IA; Sue Donaldson and husband Brian of Wellman, IA; and Jerry Horak of Riverside, IA; nine grandchildren: T.J. Rogers of Tiffin, IA; Cameron Rogers of Tiffin, IA; Mikayla Rogers of Washington, IA; Jesi and Jacob Donaldson of Wellman, IA; Louis Horak of Riverside, IA; Zachary Willman of Riverside, Iowa; Andrew Horak and Anna Horak of Wellman, IA.
Also surviving are his sister, Patricia Bruegge and husband Dale of Washington, IA; sisters-in-law, Barbara Thomann of Riverside, IA and Alberta Thomann of Richland, IA; brother-in-law, Joseph Janecek of Riverside, IA; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Ann in 2017.
