Cloyd Dwight Watson, 84, of Wayland, died Monday, Dec. 17, at Washington County Hospital of Washington following a lengthy illness.
Visitation begins at 4 p.m. today, Dec. 19, at Gould Funeral Home of Richland, where the family will be present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville, with the Rev. Wayne Wilkin officiating. Burial will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to Hope Lutheran Church and the Wayland First Responders. These may be left at the funeral home, church, or mailed to the family at 301 West 3rd Street, Wayland, IA 52654.
Mr. Watson was born June 1, 1923 in Fremont, the son of Carl and Charlotte Martin Watson. On Nov. 16, 1948, he married Lois Eshelman in Germanville.
He grew up in the Richland/Rubio area and attended area schools. He worked as a mechanic for 35 years and as a road grader for Jefferson County Road Maintenance for 14 years. He was a long time member of Hope Lutheran Church, was a member of the church council and served on the Rubio School Board. He and his wife lived in Rubio for 53 years, then moved to Wayland in 2001.
He is survived by his wife; his son, Ricky Watson and his wife Loni of Richland; his daughter, Cindy Guy and her husband Danny Joe of Brighton; and two grandchildren.
His parents, brothers: Lawrence, Derral and Delano Watson and sisters Wanita Derby, Lailla Ash and Winniefred Watson preceded him in death.
