Connie A. Duwa, 75, of Ainsworth, died Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Bickford Place Senior Living in Iowa City.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside. Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona where a prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Alzheimer’s Association and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Connie Ann (Potter) Duwa was born May 18, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of William J. and Helen D. (Voracek) Potter. She attended school in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Washington High School in Washington. On August 19, 1965, she was united in marriage to Dean Duwa at St. James Catholic Church in Washington. Connie owned and operated Connie’s Hallmark in Washington for many years and managed several retail stores in the Iowa City area. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside, the Washington Chamber of Commerce, and the Washington Bowling Association. Connie enjoyed shopping, spending time with her grandchildren, bowling, traveling and flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Dean of Ainsworth; three daughters, Christina (Troy) Hughes of Plainfield, IL, Angela Moore (Carl Smith) of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Julie (Jay) Quickel of Overland Park, KS; daughter-in-law, Julie Duwa of Washington; seven grandchildren: Jeni, Kyle, Cayden, Ali, Jesse, Juliana and Jack; and four siblings, Dixie Speed of Texas, Jim (Marlene) Potter of Marion, IA, Teresa Schutte of North Liberty, IA, and Doug (Kathy) Potter of Washington, IA.
Preceding Connie in death were her parents; her son, Deon; and an infant brother, William Potter.
