Connie Carr went home to be with Jesus on May 6, 2021, at the age of 74.
Connie was born January 10, 1947, in Kirksville, Missouri, to Kurt and Margaret Hickenbottom. She grew up working hard on her family farm with her two brothers Ed and Danny. She graduated high school from Kirksville High School and went on to attend NorthEast Missouri State University. She was homecoming queen in High School and in College. She graduated with a degree in elementary education. She started teaching in Ottumwa, Iowa where she met and was married to Rick Carr on July 21, 1973. They've been married for 48 years. Connie had her only son Cory in 1975 before moving to Spring, Texas, in 1978. She earned her masters degree in education while teaching kids to read and teachers to teach. She taught at Oaks Academy and Meyer elementary as well as being a literacy coordinator. She worked in education for 44 years. She was lovingly referred to as "The Literacy Legend."
Connie Carr had so much love in her soul to give. She gave love to all of her family and friends. She showed her love through the bright light of joy that came from her soul.
Servant, hostess, fun, generous, beautiful, kind, teacher, thoughtful, patient, spiritual, joyful, hard worker, passionate, helper's heart.
Loved God, loved people, loved her husband, loved her grandkids.
Connie is survived by her husband, Rick Carr of Spring, Texas; son, Cory (Jill) Carr of Springfield, Missouri; and four grandchildren, Caroline, Matthew, Luke and Samuel; and step-daughter, Jody Williams (Todd) of Ottumwa, Iowa, and their son, Brent.
A memorial service will be from 11:30 a.m. till 2 p.m. Saturday May 29, 2021, at Perry's Steakhouse & Grill at 9730 Cypresswood Drive, Houston, TX 77070. The Memorial will be a drop in, come and go as convenient. There will be a special tribute at noon from the family.
