Connie Sue Shelangoski, 79, of Brighton, died at her home, surrounded by her family on Tuesday evening, December 31, 2024. She was born April 29, 1945, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Joseph Oliver and Ruth Ellen Volger Smith. Connie grew up in the Coppock and Brighton area and attended Brighton and Washington Schools. She married Sydney Eugene Schooley and they later divorced. She then married Paul Shelangoski in Keosauqua July 18, 1998.

Connie worked at Halcyon House and Fansteel, Inc both in Washington and loved to fish and mow yards. She is survived by her husband Paul, and children: Toni Sandell of Washington, Tricia Jones (Phil) of Corpus Christi, TX, and step-son Michael of Portland, OR, grandchildren: Japonica Cruise (Robert) of Covington, LA, Hannah Hobbs (Jade) of New London, Desirae Hesseltine of Brighton, and Keenan Schooley of Keota, 5 great grandchildren, one sister, Nancy Kelly of Brighton, one brother, Tim Smith (Mary) of Brighton, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Cynthia Hesseltine, one son Kevin Schooley, 2 sisters and 5 brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday January 6, 2025, at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton with Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton. Visitation will be 2 to 4 P.M. Sunday January 5, 2025, at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton. Memorials have been established for her grandchildren and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at PO Box 58, Brighton, Iowa 52540.
