Constance "Connie" M. Sieren, 89, of Keota, died of heart failure on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Connie was born Dec. 27, 1932, in Fort Madison, to Harry and Laila (Schurk) Roxlau. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1950 and attended nursing school at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa, graduating in 1953. On Aug. 27, 1955, she married James Sieren at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison. Connie was a homemaker and also worked as a nurse at Maplewood Manor, semi-retiring in 2010. She also worked at the Village Shop in Kalona. Connie was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, Holy Trinity Choir, Parish Council, St. Theresa Study Club, P. Buckley Moss chapter, past president and board member of Keokuk County Expo, Keokuk County Cowbell, was inducted in the 4-H Hall of Fame after being a leader for 25 years, organized community blood drives, was a leader of the Keota swim team in the 1980s, was a 50 year member of a Pepper Club and book club member at the Wilson Memorial Library. Connie also knitted hundreds of hats for premature babies at University of Iowa Hospitals. She would do anything for anyone who needed anything.
Survivors include her husband, Jim of Keota; three children, Catherine (Rod) O'Brine of Lisbon, Stephen (Mary) Sieren of Keota and Nicole Sieren of Keota; five grandchildren, Michael (Kristi) Hotchkiss, Andrew (Sara) Hotchkiss, Adam (Michele) Sieren, Abby Sieren and Alicia (Ardie) Sieren-Brock; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Tweedy of DeKalb, Ill., and Eleanor Groene of Davenport; and a brother, Richard Roxlau of Fort Madison.
She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Jill Rebecca Hotchkiss.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with the Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries-St. Mary's Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at the church.
