Cora Irine Simmons

Cora Irine Simmons, 89, of the Pleasant Point community west of Oakland Mills, died at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2000, at Henry County Health Center.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, at Weir Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephen Prickett officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetary. Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday, May 24, at Weir Funeral Home with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening. A memorial has been established to Pleasant Point Church.

Mrs. Simmons was born on December 20, 1910, in Pleasant Point, the daughter of Edwin S. and Enitia M. Chezum Craig.

She married George Barton Simmons on January 8, 1930 at Mt. Pleasant. She attended Pleasant Point School, was a homemaker, and was a member of Pleasant Point Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Lazzerini of Surprise, Ariz., and Linda Farr of rural Mt. Pleasant; three sons, Dale of Marengo, Ill., Wayne of Mt. Pleasant; and George of Murrieta, Calif.; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Clement, William, and Walter Craig; and four sisters, Opal Simmons, Ruby Knass, Kathryn Jones, and Lillian Craig.
