COLUMBUS JUNCTION ? Craig Alan Wheeler, 66, of Columbus City, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, in the Washington County Hospital in Washington.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. A general memorial has been established at the funeral home.
Mr. Wheeler was born Sept. 14, 1949, in Ames, the son of Francis K. and Miriam K. (Dimmitt) Wheeler. He married Myra Nadine Buser on Aug. 3, 2003.
In his earlier years, he was a DJ for various radio stations and then went to work for the University of Iowa in the Chemistry Building. He was a member of the Uncle and the Anteaters band, which was inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was a past member of the Columbus City Masons and enjoyed camping, fishing, grilling and smoking meats, brewing his own beer, music, and collecting guitars.
Surviving are his wife, Nadine, of Columbus City; two children, Cristin Alissa Chiasson, stationed in Turkey, and Eric Wheeler of Florida; one son-in-law, Jason Chiasson, stationed in Turkey; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Connie Rummelhart and husband LeRoy of Coralville, and Marilyn Nelson and husband William of West Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one stepson, Jerame Way.
