Curtis Paul York, age 86, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 21, 2020 after a lengthy illness at his home in Washington, Iowa.
Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Monday, October 26, 2020 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. Curtis Paul York was born March 1, 1934, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Dale Hubert and Dorothy Alice (Shafer) York. He attended school in Washington, Iowa, and graduated from Washington High School in 1952. He was united in marriage to Shirley B. Carey on February 22, 1956, in Washington, Iowa.
Curt started working when he was in high school setting up and installing some of the first Television Antennas, he worked at Cargill where he met his future wife Shirley, worked construction which had his involvement of making the dirt road into Highway 1 from Washington to Brighton, Iowa. Curt was an over the road semi/truck drive, worked for Perdock Motors and a few other automotive garages and eventually owned and operated Curt's Body Shop. Curt and his wife Shirley, also owned and operated the Lantern Tavern in Ainsworth, Iowa. Curt retired from LL Pelling Company in 2004 and was a caregiver to his wife for ten years. He served in the Iowa National Guard.
Curt enjoyed going to auctions and collecting a wide variety of things, he enjoyed his motorcycles, working on vehicles, spoiling the family dogs, watching NASCAR, car shows, fishing and boating on the Iowa River, and spending time at the cabin with his family. His signature trademark was grilling steaks every Saturday night.
He is survived by son, Dale York and wife Connie of Mandan, North Dakota; daughter, Mary Brinning and husband Bryan of Washington, Iowa; son, Jeff York of Washington, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Josh, Michelle, Heather, Jennifer, James, Jacob, Tyler, Samantha; 11 great-grandchildren 3 great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Dean York and wife Sharon of Davenport, Iowa; and Mike York and wife Becky of Washington, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley in 2013; one sister, Arlene Cherryholmes; an infant brother, Allen York; and an infant granddaughter, Ashley.
