Cynthia “Cindy” Rauh Carey, 68, of Homewood, Illinois, died Friday, October 7, 2022, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa. Cindy had been declining in health but her passing was unexpected.
Private family services will be held at a later date with interment at Homewood Memorial Gardens in Homewood, Illinois. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent for Cindy’s family through the web at www.jonesfh.com.
Cindy was born February 3, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Richard P. and Vivienne (Johnson) Rauh. She graduated from Fenger High School in Chicago. Cindy was united in marriage to Jay G. Carey on December 4, 1971, in Chicago.
Cindy lived in Homewood, Illinois, prior to moving to Washington, Iowa, in June of 2022. She worked as a Receptionist at a Psychiatrists Office in Tinley Park, Illinois, until Covid restricitions forced her early retirement. Her kids and grandkids were the focus of her life. In her earlier years, Cindy served as a Den Mother, was a board member for the Homewood Baseball Association and coached her daughter’s softball teams. She was a lover of animals and flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Jay Carey of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Tricia Kroll and husband Brad of Washington, Iowa; son, Richard “Rocky” Carey and wife Alissa of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; son, Jay Paul “JP” Carey and wife Erin of Shaumburg, Illinois; and seven grandchildren: Lucas, Caitlin and Vivienne Kroll; Preston and Conor Carey; and Brooks and Griffin Carey.
Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Patricia “Patti” Gremaud.
