Dale Engle
Dale Engle, age 89, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington after failing in health for the past year. Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Calling hours will begin noon Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Monday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. Online condolences may be sent for Dale's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com Dale was born November 9, 1928, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Edward H. and Bernice (Altenberndt) Engle. He attended country school in Dutch Creek Township and graduated from West Chester High School in 1947. Dale was united in marriage to Betty Griggs on June 17, 1950. Following his marriage, Dale lived in Crawfordsville, Iowa, and later moved to Washington, Iowa, in 1964. He operated Farmers Produce in Crawfordsville, Iowa, and later owned and operated the Sports Shop in Washington from 1963 until 1972. Dale sold insurance for Bankers Life and Casualty for several years. He later went into the construction business and owned Dale Engle Construction until his retirement at which time he sold his business to Greiner Buildings. Dale was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, KAABA Shrine and Eastern Star. He served in the National Guard for many years. Dale enjoyed hunting and fishing and the annual fishing trips to Wisconsin with his son, Rick. He and his wife, Betty, enjoyed spending winter months in warmer climates. Dale is survived by his daughter, Kathy Dean and husband Gordon of North Liberty, Iowa; son, Rick Engle and wife Lynn of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren: Lisa Wenger of Washington, Iowa; Phil Johnson and wife Ericka of North Liberty, Iowa; Lindsay Bowers and husband Jeff of North Liberty, Iowa; Jake Engle of Washington, Iowa; Jenna Engle of Washington, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren: Max and Ally Wenger; Braylon, Beckett and Blayke Bowers; Maddux and Ellingtyn Johnson all of North Liberty, Iowa; and one sister, Lois Anne Cruse and husband Bill of New Orleans, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty, in 2015.
