Dale Eugene Roberts, age 88, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Halcyon House after failing in health for the past four months.

Celebration of life services with military honors will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2023, at the United Methodist Church in Washington with Pastor Anthony DeVaughn officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Washington American Legion Post 29. The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Interment will take place at Oregon Township Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church of Washington or the Ainsworth American Legion. Dale was born May 9, 1935, in Ainsworth, Iowa, the son of William and Leona (Leeper) Roberts. Dale graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1953 and attended Iowa State University in Ames. He served honorably in the United States Army for two years where he was stationed in Germany. Dale was united in marriage to Maurine Stephens on June 24, 1956, in Ainsworth.

Dale was a lifelong farmer and also worked as an Ag Loan Officer for Hawkeye Bank in Washington, Iowa. He was a member of the Ainsworth Methodist Church and later the Washington United Methodist Church. He sang in the church choirs for over 60 years. In his younger days, Dale enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and softball. His golf slice was legendary and he played regularly until two years ago. He served on the Board of Directors of Hawkeye Bank in Washington for many years and was a member of the Ainsworth Lions Club. Dale was a proud member of the Ainsworth American Legion where he played TAPS for several decades at the Memorial Day observance in Ainsworth.

He is survived by his wife, Maurine Roberts of Washington, Iowa; son, Tim Roberts and wife Criss of Ainsworth, Iowa; son, Eric Roberts of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter, Kathy Jurgenson and husband Tim of Ankeny, Iowa; son-in-law, Tim Dempsey of Urbandale, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jill Dempsey; and one brother, Carl Roberts.
