Dale W. Gonterman, age 65, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, February 2, 2019, following a 30 month battle with cancer.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at the West Chester Cemetery with Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 Tuesday evening. Interment will take place at the West Chester Cemetery. A memorial has been established for travel expenses for Washington County Cancer patients. Dale was born October 22, 1953, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Nela (Young) Gonterman. He graduated from Washington High School in 1972. Dale was united in marriage to Cindy Colliver on July 5, 1986, in West Chester, Iowa. Dale was previously married to Roberta Beenblossom in 1976.

Dale worked construction where he was a partner with his uncle, Keith Young, in Dreambuilders Inc. He later worked for Frank Bruty Construction and worked twelve years as a Pressman at the Washington Evening Journal. Dale most recently worked at Whitesell until health forced his retirement.

Dale was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and trained hunting dogs for many years. He enjoyed working with Percheron draft horses. Dale played guitar in a couple of local bands. He enjoyed spending time with his family and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Gonterman of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Stephanie Miksch of Chicago, Illinois; son Dan Gonterman and wife Heather of Wayland, Iowa; son, Donald Miksch and wife Sheri of Washington, Iowa; son Anthony Gonterman and girlfriend Joni Delaney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and brother, Bruce Gonterman and wife Susan of Independence, Iowa. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Dwight Colliver of Washington, Iowa; sister-in-law, Vickie Gonterman of Washington, Iowa; brother-in-law, Chris Colliver of West Chester, Iowa; and four nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Gerry in 2018; and mother-in-law, Edna Colliver.
