Dan Macenski, age 83, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the United Methodist Church, with Pastor Alyssa Nantt officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will be present to greet friends. A private family interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Washington United Methodist Church and the Iowa Public Broadcasting Service. Dan was born June 18, 1942, in Hammond, Indiana, the son of Charles W. and Olga (Lecyk) Macenski. He graduated from Hammond High School and attended Purdue University. Growing up, Dan attended a Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and taught folk dancing with his brother, Charles. While in Indiana, Dan worked as a Journeyman Electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). There, he met Jean Morrison, and the two were married on June 17, 1972, in Washington, Iowa.
Dan and Jean relocated to Washington in 1982 to be closer to his in-laws. He worked as a Life Insurance Consultant at Sellers Insurance in Washington and Farmers Savings Bank in Keota. Dan was an active member of the United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir. He participated in the Y’s Men and was a former member of the Rotary Club.
Dan was also involved in acting and backstage work at Washington Community Theater. He enjoyed walking his dog, Maggie, and was a longtime Chicago Cubs fan.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Macenski of Washington, Iowa; son, Daniel A. of Colorado; son, Matthew Macenski of Coralville, Iowa; daughter, Kathleen (Andy) Isaacson of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Daniel and Samson Isaacson; and brother, Charles W. Macenski Jr. of Munster, Indiana; along with several nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Ann (Nick) Vlasich; parents-in-law, Ed and Kathleen Morrison; and sister-in-law, Nancy Macenski.
