KALONA ? Daniel Duain Miller, 90, of Kalona, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, in Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the East Union Mennonite Church in rural Kalona with the Rev. Joel Beachy officiating. Burial will follow at the East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 26, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for East Union Mennonite Church and Iowa Mennonite School.
Mr. Miller was born May 25, 1926, in rural Johnson County, the son of Henry H. and Mary Pearl (Gingerich) Miller. He married Nita Miller on March 30, 1948, at East Union Mennonite Church.
He attended Prairie Dale School. He and his wife lived most of their married life on the family farm. Besides farming, they also operated the lunchroom at the Kalona Sales Barn for 17 years. He was a lifelong member of East Union Mennonite Church, where he was involved with various church groups and activities. He was also a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau and served as a 4-H leader for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, attending grandchildren?s sporting and fine arts events, family pie night, his coffee club and playing games.
Surviving are his wife, Nita, of Kalona; six children, Larry Miller and wife Wilma of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Carolyn Detweiler and husband Larry of Parnell, Jim Miller and wife Deb of Coralville, Paul Miller and wife Deyonne of Johnston, Paulette Hershberger and husband Marv of Kalona, and Angela Beary and husband Mark of Kalona; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Quinten Miller and wife Dolores of Kalona, and Paul Miller and wife Laura of Kalona; one sister-in-law, Barbara Eichelberger of Hesston, Kansas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Nancy Jolene Miller; and one brother, Monroe Miller.
