Daniel Floyd Shipler, 69, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Sunday morning, Jan. 19, 2020, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.
He was born Feb. 12, 1950, in Ottumwa, to Harold and Juanita (Whitmore) Shipler. Dan graduated from Cardinal High School in Eldon and attended Parsons College in Fairfield. He served in the U.S. Army for several years. Dan married Kathleen Carr in 1979 and they resided in DeWitt. He worked at various factories and retired from Titan Wheel in Walcott following nearly 30 years of service. Dan spent many happy years with his fiancee, Carol.
Dan enjoyed playing pool, bowling, fishing and his guns. He always enjoyed a good beer with his friends and watching NASCAR and the Iowa Hawkeyes on TV and the radio.
Surviving are his daughter, Dana (Robert Jarrett) Shipler of Calamus; his mother, Juanita Shipler; his fianee, Carol Ostler; a stepdaughter, Leona Jarrett Alacron; grandchildren, Patrick Shipler, Lillie Small, Jayson Jones, Logan Jones, David Hayes, Jessica Frames, Chasity Whittaker and Whitney Frames; great-grandchildren, Kayelyn, Parker, Milo, Dawson, Mayson and Annabelle; siblings, Mary Ann (Delbert) Nordyke, Colleen (Kerry) Heisel and Michael (Lindsey) Shipler; nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dan in death were his father and a brother, David Shipler.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, in the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Boomershine officiating. Burial and military rites will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jayson Jones, Logan Jones, Bart Steines, Kerry Heisel, Jerry Dovico and Berry Ross.
