Daniel J. Merz

KEOTA - Daniel J. Merz, 84, of Harper, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, in the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Iowa City following a brief illness.

      Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in the Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper with military rites to be accorded by the Keota V.F.W. Post No. 4716. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a wake service at 5 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Maplewood Manor or QRS.

      Mr. Merz was born Dec. 28, 1924, near Harper, the son of John and Margaret (Sieren) Merz. He married Kathryn Evonne Flynn on June 17, 1959 in Washington.
