Daniel Lee Reed, 75, of Kalona, died at his home May 12, 2022. He was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, on June 28, 1946, the son of Charles James and Louise Peck Reed. Danny grew up in Richland and graduated from Pekin High School in 1964. He married Lois D. Butler at Mother Cabrini Church in Richland on April 15, 1972, and they just celebrated their 50th Anniversary. Danny served in the U.S. Army Reserves, had served on the Richland Volunteer Fire Department and held many jobs in his work career: Real Estate Agent, factory, gas station, LL Pelling Co. in road construction, Farmers Cooperative in Richland hauling fertilizer but most of all as a farmer raising cattle. He was also a member of Mother Cabrini Church in Richland.

Danny is survived by his wife in Kalona; his children, Clint Reed of Mitchellville and Joda Whitcher (Bradley) of Neponset, Ill.; five grandchildren, Madison Meyer, Larissa Meyer, Colton Whitcher, Wesley Whitcher and Mason Whitcher, all of Neponset, Ill.; one brother,Gene Reed (Diane) of Richland; two sisters, Linda Bott (Mike) of Somers, Iowa, and Nancy Glandon (Gary) of Washington; and nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Wells.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 20, at Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in Richland with the Rev. Robert Lathrop and Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday also at Mother Cabrini Church. Memorials for the Richland Volunteer Fire Department, Southeastern Renal Dialysis, LLC in Fairfield or for Stead Children's Hospital in Iowa City may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 803 Eighth St., Kalona, IA 52247. Gould Funeral Home of Richland is in charge of arrangements.
