Daniel J. Smith, 57, of Lockridge, passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022, at his home in Lockridge.

Daniel was born Feb. 24, 1964, at Moline, Ill., the son of Joyce Smith. He worked at Short Hills Country Club in East Moline, Ill. Dan was united in marriage to Melissa Gillispie on Feb. 24, 2018, at Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mount Pleasant. He loved to cook, watch TV, play video games and spend time with his pets. Dan was an avid comic book reader and enjoyed those of Marvel, Iron Man and Transformers, especially Optimum Prime. He worked at Innovairre of Mount Pleasant. Dan lived his life to the fullest and showed others how to be loving and caring towards others. He attended Faith Christian Outreach Church of Mount Pleasant.

Dan is survived by his wife, Melissa Smith of Lockridge; his mother, Joyce Smith of East Moline; his brother, Jimmy VanRycke of East Moline; his sister, Teresa Wyse of Woodhull, Ill.; his aunt, Sue J. Smith of East Moline; and a longtime family friend, Roxy Nichols of East Moline, and her son, Zeke Nichols of Moline.

Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents.

A celebration of Dan's life will be hosted by his family at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mount Pleasant with Pastor Gary VanNyhuis officiating. A memorial has been established in his memory. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant.
