Danny "Dan" Joe Hoffman, 74, of Danville, IA, and formerly of Fairfield, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020, at the Danville Care Center. As were his wishes, his body has been cremated with services to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Dan's honor may be directed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (mda.org). Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Dan Hoffman was born on March 4, 1946, in Wright County, IA, to Van and Esta Brown Hoffman Dan's early years were spent in Birmingham, IA. After completion of his GED, Dan went on to further his education at Indian Hills Community College and Buena Vista University, where he graduated with a degree in Psychology. During this time, he was honored as a Who's Who College Student of American selection. On May 22, 1964, Dan was united in marriage to Pamela Boyle at the Baptist Church in Kahoka, MO. Throughout Dan's life his health created many challenges that limited his ability to work full time. This, however, did not stop him from being an advocate for Muscular Dystrophy, as well as fighting for the rights of those with physical and mental disabilities. In 1986 he was awarded the Governor's Award and continued to stay active in politics until his health would no longer allow him to do so. He always managed to find time to cheer for the Iowa Hawkeyes when there was a game. Dan was a man who lived his life rooted in his faith in the Lord. He made the most of what he was given and will be missed by his family and many friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pamela; two brothers, Richard Hoffman and Kenny Hoffman; as well as a grandson, Jaxton Hoffman.
Left to share his story are his children, Sarah (Jamie) Hoffman-Koettel of Fairfield, IA, and Melissa Hoffman of Quincy, IL; five grandchildren, Allison Hoffman, Jamiya Hoffman, Jashaud Williams, Jeremy Williams and Jakiyan Hoffman; three sisters, Judy Douglas, Karen Vineyard and Gloria Miles; as well as many extended family and friends.
