He married Barbara Burham on Feb. 4, 1961, in Washington, Iowa, and they spent most of their life in the Washington community before moving to Mount Pleasant in 1994.
One of the many things Darald loved was his country. He served our country in the National Guard once as well as the United States Army Reserves four separate times, receiving an honorable discharge for each. It was during these years that he earned the nickname, "Sarge," by which many knew him.
If you knew Darald, you knew that he spent many of his years making the things that make the things that now make the things that everyone uses today. He was a proud tool and dye maker and over the years, he worked for Ross Manufacturing, General Electric, Thomas & Betts, and eventually retired from Nypro in Mount Pleasant.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Mount Pleasant. His was so very proud of his family and loved spending time with them. Other things he enjoyed were attending auctions, going on motorcycle rides and road trips, mowing and taking care of his acreage, and going out for breakfast and coffee with the "old timers." He was also an avid storyteller.
Darald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara; daughter, Laura Zehr of Mediapolis, Iowa; son, Jeff Letts of Burlington, Iowa; son, Matt Letts of Keokuk, Iowa; honorary son, Michael Arnold of Brighton, Iowa; three grandchildren, Nicole (Josiah) Nihart of Mediapolis, Iowa, Misty Zehr (fiance Tucker Hollingsworth) of Mediapolis, Iowa, and Austin Zehr III of San Diego, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Easton, Bowen, Henry, Oakley and Theron Nihart of Mediapolis; one brother, E. Dwight (Dollie) Letts of Des Moines, Iowa; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
