Darlene Rose Burich, 98, of Riverside, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023, at Crestview Specialty Care in West Branch. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Riverside. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Riverside Public Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Darlene. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.
Darlene Rose Sojka was born on January 17, 1925, in Washington County, Iowa the daughter of Wes Harry and Emma Anna (Beranek) Sojka. She was a 1943 graduate of Riverside Public School and then attended Teacher’s College. On June 20, 1946, Darlene was united in marriage to Cleo Ivan Burich in Riverside. Darlene taught country school, owned and operated Tiny’s Tap, worked at the University of Iowa and helped at the Trek Fest Museum. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and Riverside V.F.W. and a past member of the Moose. Darlene enjoyed playing bingo, music, writing letters and cards, mushroom hunting, fishing, flowers and her garden, but most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.
Darlene will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephew, Barb Fountain of Mt. Pleasant, Vicki (Paul) Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, Missy (Joel) Schintler of Iowa City, Melanie (Mike) Seeber of Madison, Wisconsin, Sandy (Bud) Norris of Mauldin, South Carolina, and John (Becky) Burich of North Liberty; many great-nieces and -nephews and sister-in-law, Marilyn Burich of Iowa City.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cleo; brother, Norman (Verna) Sojka; brothers-in-law, Dale Burch and Robert Burich; and nieces, Pat Hirt and Vickie Jones.
