Darlene Widmer, 91, of West Chester, died early Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, at the University Hospitals and Clincs in Iowa City. She was born Aug. 12, 1928, in Washington, to Antone

"Tony" and Opal Tierney Ramge Meuth. Darlene attended West Chester area schools and Brighton High School. She married Rex E. Widmer May 8, 1946, in Brighton. He died Jan. 9, 1996. They lived in Washington and Jefferson county areas, where she was a housewife and school secretary for the Pleasant Plain school system. Darlene moved to West Chester in 1972, attended the West Chester Methodist Church and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, the Altar and Rosary Society and Pythian Sisters.

Darlene is survived by her son, Larry Widmer of West Chester; grandchildren, Tiffany Allen Widmer of Fairfield and Tara Widmer of Aberdeen, Md.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four children, infant twins and infants, Gary Allen and Beverly Ann; and sisters, Leota Emry and Lola Moxley.

Darlene was cremated as she wished. A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with the Rev. Louis Leonhardt officiating. Prayers for a Christian Wake will be held at the church Wednesday evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by Family Visitation until 8 p.m.

Memorials for Hospice of Washington County or for the Red Cross may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 1594 200th St., West Chester, IA 52359.
