Darren Eugene Rhodes, 53, of Ainsworth, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A private family service will be held at a later date. Darren was born Oct. 18, 1966, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Walter and Marilyn (McDole) Rhodes. He graduated from Highland High School and furthered his education by attending Indian Hills Community College and receiving a degree in welding.

Darren worked at Bazooka Farmstar for many years and then started managing hog confinements. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and also enjoyed NASCAR races and watching NFL football on Sundays. Most of all, Darren enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his father, Walter Rhodes of Washington, Iowa; sister, Julie Hoyle and significant other Hank Townsend of Ainsworth; nephew, Jacob Bauer and wife Camarie of Washington; niece, Courtney Hoyle and fiance Andrew Alvarado of Coralville; five great-nieces, Jade, Natalie, Margot, Kadie and Kayleigh; and two great-nephews: Ryker and Liam, who he loved dearly. He is survived by aunts, one uncle and several cousins. Darren also is survived by extended family who he proudly and lovingly referred to as his daughters, Erica, Angelica and Nicki; and two granddaughters, Stormie and Summer.

Darren was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Rhodes; older brother, Randy Rhodes; maternal and paternal grandparents; and uncles, Patrick McDole and Andrew Simpson.
