David Lee Brinning, 97, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington. Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday. Interment with military honors will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. David was born June 27, 1922, the son of William H. and Grace (Anderson) Brinning. He attended school in Washington. David was united in marriage to Norma J. Smith on Oct. 18, 1947, in Iowa City. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. David farmed his entire life. He was a past member of Grace Hill Moravian Church and the United Presbyterian Church. David enjoyed spending time at the senior center where he played cards. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting and playing pool at the YMCA. He is survived by his son, Larry Brinning and wife Connie of Washington; three grandchildren, Benson, Kristen and Alex Ramsey; sister-in-law, Shirley Barwick; brothers-in-law, Harold and Stanley Smith; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2001; brother, William Brinning; and sister, Eleanor Olvey.
