David C. Ellis, 78, formally from Fairfield, Iowa, passed away in Bedford, Ind., at 1:11 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2020, in the presence of his loving family at his residence.

He was born May 17,1942, in Rock Springs, WY, he was the son of Francis J. and Gladys L. (Staffin) Ellis. He married Clair (Louise) Wilson on June 6, 1964, and she survives. Five years ago, David and his wife moved from Fairfield to Bedford, Indiana, to be closer to their daughter and grandsons. He twice retired as a civil engineer from the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Iowa National Guard with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Army. He oft repeated advice for his grandsons and public at large was, "Be good and drive safe!"

Survivors include his wife, Clair of Bedford; daughter, Susan (Ellis) Juhl and husband, Matt; and grandsons, Alexander and Alaric Juhl.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Diana.
