David M. Chorpening, Sr. 71, of Wayland, formerly of Ainsworth died Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Parkview Home in Wayland. A memorial service is pending at this time. A memorial fund has been established for Paws & More Animal Shelter.

David M. Chorpening was born November 28, 1947 in Washington, Iowa, the son of Russell F. and Zitta (Bush) Chorpening. He attended Keota High School and served in the Army National Guard, Medical Unit. Dave was united in marriage to Linda Christian in Washington in 1971 and the couple was married until 1991. After divorcing he married Cindy Warren in 1992. Dave worked in maintenance at Orchard Hill and R.E.M. in Washington and Kalona. He also owned and operated DC limited and a home repair business. He was a former member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church and current member of American Legion Post #29. Dave enjoyed tinkering and fixing motors.

Survivors include four children: David Chorpening, Jr., of Washington, Shawn Chorpening of Little Rock, AR, Aaron Chorpening of Washington and Tracy (Sara) Chorpening of Cedar Falls, three step children: Angie Reighard of Nevada, IA, Lea Reighard of Springfield, MO, Chris Reighard of Washington, two grandchildren: Zach Richardson and Kieran Chorpening, seven step grandchildren: Blake, Jake, Matt, Sami, Justus, Shaylea and Cole, two sisters: Arlene Wheeler of Coralville, Angela McKune of Cabool, MO, two brothers: Richard (Anna) Chorpening of Washington, Russell Chorpening, Jr. of Kalona, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and his ex-wife Linda Colhouer of Washington.

Preceding Dave in death were his parents, his wife Cindy in 2012 and brother Russell Chorpening, Jr. in 1943.
