David D. Y. Schwartz

KALONA ? David D.Y. Schwartz, 51, of Kalona, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City from injuries suffered in a bicycle accident on Oct. 19, 2016.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Paul Hochstedler residence at 5679 Highway 1 S.W. in rural Kalona, with the Rev. Perry Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 31, at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona, and will continue after 9 a.m., Tuesday at the Paul Hochstedler residence. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is handling the arrangements.

Mr. Schwartz was born July 6, 1965, in Adams County near Geneva, Indiana, the son of David Y. and Ada (Hilty) Schwartz.

He lived in Indiana, Iowa, and Missouri before moving back to Kalona 28 years ago. He was a handyman and worked various jobs. He enjoyed history and visiting with people.

Surviving are nine siblings, Lucinda Ada Schwartz of Kalona, Emma A. Hochstedler and husband Paul of Kalona, Katie A. Eicher and husband Henry H. of Kalona, Lydia A. Schwartz of Kearny, Arizona, Elizabeth A. Alexander and husband Kent of Tabor, Johnny D.Y. Schwartz and wife Carmen of Wellman, Samuel D.Y. Schwartz and wife Serena of Webster, Crist D.Y. Schwartz and wife Starla of Kalona, and Joseph D. Shetler and wife Rachelle of Kalona; three stepsisters, Mandy Shetler, Martha Miller, and Marie Bontrager; two stepbrothers, Jake, and Daniel Shetler; and 60 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
