David L. “Dave” Ross, age 82, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Washington County Hospital following an illness of the past two years.
The family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment with a graveside service will take place at a later date at the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church of Washington and the Tunnels to Towers Foundation. Online condolences may be sent for Dave’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
Dave was born on November 10, 1943, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Lewis F. and Lillian L. (Cutler) Ross. He graduated from Boone High School in 1962 and was united in marriage to Cathy Bell on August 23, 1964, in Boone, Iowa.
Dave had been a resident of Washington since 1981. Prior to moving to the area, he and his family lived in Boone, Manchester, and Fort Dodge, Iowa. Dave was the manager of the Washington Fareway from 1981 until his retirement in 2006 and served on the Board of Directors of Fareway Food Stores from 1995 to 2000. Following his retirement, Dave worked at Ace-n-More from 2008 until 2025. He was also a member of the Washington Chamber of Commerce.
Dave loved riding his John Deere mower and doing yard work. He was a people person who enjoyed helping others, visiting with friends and neighbors, and fixing things.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Ross of Washington, Iowa; son, David (Rebecca) Ross of Maple Gove, Minnesota; son, Thomas Ross of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren: Madeline and Claudia Ross, and Dominic and Drake Ross; sisters, Marilyn Dee of Stratford, Iowa, Carol (Jerry) Zanker of Galva, Kansas, and Judy (Daryl) Zanker of Murray, Nebraska; along with several nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jon Ross; brother-in-law, Roger Dee; and granddaughter, Alivia.
