David W. Harper

David Walter Harper, 60, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of New London, died Thursday, Nov. 8, at St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville.

His body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at New London Christian Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, with pastor Rod Cooper officiating. Inurnment will be at Burge Cemetery in New London. There will be no visitation.

David was born May 7, 1947 in St. Joseph, Mo., the son of Walter and Merle Crocker Harper. On Dec. 7, 1979, he married Sharon Hurt at Winfield Methodist Church. They later divorced.

Having attended school in New London, he enjoyed fishing, reading and writing poetry and was a Hawkeyes basketball fan.

He is survived by a son, Walter Harper and his wife Jessica of Lincoln, Ill.; a daughter, Melissa Harper of Mt. Pleasant; and two sisters, Loma Maloney and her husband Jim of Lincoln, Ill. and Anne Higgins and her husband Mike of Kenney, Ill.

His parents preceded him in death.
