Dawn Pope, 61 of Deep River passed away October 12, 2023, at her and John’s home surrounded by loved ones. There will be a private family burial at a later time. Memorials may be directed to John Pope, 2910 B Ave Deep River, IA 52222; Rhonda Hoyt (Venmo) @Rhonda-Hoyt-4; (Venmo) @Bethany-Cheney-3.
Dawn Delight Pope was born on October 28, 1961, to Charles Edward Johnson “Chuck” and RuthAnne (Shields) Johnson. Dawn grew up in Belle Plaine, Iowa where she attended Belle Plaine schools. She later earned her GED from Kirkwood. Soon after she earned her GED, she earned her CNA and OMT certificates. Dawn worked at several care centers during her career: Belle Plaine Care Center, Rose Haven in Marengo, MMH in Marengo, Colonial Manor in Amana, most recent was English Valley Care Center in North English. She took a lot of pride in her work. She cared for the disabled and elderly as if they were her own family. She was also so proud to work and end her career at a 5-star care facility, EVCC.
Dawn was united in marriage to Roger Curt Hawkins at the Methodist Church in Belle Plaine, March 29, 1980. They became the parents of two daughters, Rhonda and Bethany. Dawn was later united in marriage to John Pope, June 20, 2009.
Dawn had a huge heart. She was always willing to go the extra mile for those that she took care of and for those she loved. She had a love for animals. She has several cats and 3 dogs that she spoiled and cherished. She loved to garden, both vegetables and flower beds. Family was Dawn’s greatest joy.
Dawn is survived by her husband, John; her children, Rhonda (Jason) Hoyt of Elberon and Bethany (Timothy) Cheney of Victor; Stepson, Justin (Amanda) Pope of Carroll; her grandchildren, Jaden (Jessica) Hawkins, Owen Hoyt, Kylee Hoyt, Brayen Shaull, Adalynn Shaull, Cadence Cheney, Blayne Pope, and Cole Pope; her sibling, Margo (Ron) Sievers; Sister-in-law, Julie (Larry) Steen; Brother-in-law, Jim (Cathi) Pope; Nieces, Julie (Melissa) Hawkins, Jordon (Josh) Van Kooten, Jessika (Andrew) Thomas, Jennifer (Teun) Boelen, Kori Pope; Shaun (Lindsey) Sievers, Shane (Connie) Sievers, Craig (Angela) Hawkins, Cody (Sara) Hawkins, Jack Steen; close friends, Connie Jane Jahlas, Kimberlee (Jim) Pecenka and Sandra (Skeeter) Bloome; and several other friends and co-workers.
Dawn was preceded in death by her loving parents; her baby brother, Terry Lee Johnson; Step-grandson, Alexander Pope, and several beloved aunts, uncles, family, friends, and pets.
