Delbert Lloyd Rees, age 89, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Salem Welsh United Presbyterian Church in rural Columbus Junction, with Pastor Aaron Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow at Cambrian Cemetery. Calling hours will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home, where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Memorials have been established for the Salem Welsh United Presbyterian Church or the Columbus Junction Volunteer Fire Department. Delbert was born on February 15, 1935, in the house where he lived his entire life in Columbus Junction, Iowa. He was the son of Henry Lloyd and Lena Mae (Evans) Rees. Delbert graduated from Cotter High School in 1953 and served in the National Guard Reserves while working on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Sandra Lougene Dallmeyer on February 1, 1964, in rural Columbus Junction.
Delbert played basketball and baseball in high school and continued to participate in a summer baseball team for Wyman for many years.
His farm and the Salem Welsh United Presbyterian Church were central to his life. Delbert enjoyed attending farm auctions, fishing, hunting, and eagerly anticipated deer season. Most importantly, he cherished spending time with family and friends.
Delbert will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Columbus Junction; sons Jeffrey Rees of Walcott, Iowa, and James (Melinda) Rees of Columbus Junction; grandsons Jared (Kasey) Rees and their children Khayden, Jacob, and Lucille; and Johnathan (Paige) Rees, all of Columbus Junction.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lena Rees, and his brother, Rowland Rees.
