Delores and Harley Edgerton
DELORES AND HARLEY EDGERTON
Laurie, Mo.
Delores and Harley Edgerton departed this earth as they had lived life-together.
Delores Elaine Edgerton, age 78, of Laurie, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at her home. She was born February 26, 1943, in Douds, Iowa, the daughter of the late Francis "Dee" and Roberta Ruth (Evans) Canny.
Harley Edgerton, age 80, followed her in death on Monday, August 2, 2021, at Lake Regional Hospital. He was born April 7, 1941, in Boone, Iowa, the son of the late Arley Gerald and Mary Margaret (Kinsey) Edgerton.
Harley was working at the filing station in Fairfield, while attending Parsons College when Delores spied the handsome young man.
On May 6, 1962, they were united in marriage.
Delores worked as an administrative assistant for various schools including Pence Elementary in Fairfield, Iowa Grant Elementary in Albia, Iowa UCM (formerly CMSU) in Warrensburg, Missouri, before retiring from Morgan County R-II Middle School in Versailles, Missouri.
Harley had worked for the United Telephone Company for twenty-nine years and nine months before retiring in 1994.
Harley and Delores were an inseparable couple. Where you saw one the other was not far behind. They greeted everyone with a smile! Delores was the type of person who never knew a stranger and once you met her you were a friend for life. She saw the good in everyone. She enjoyed people and socializing and kept in contact with everyone. She made sure to brighten the day of those she knew by sending texts, emails or commenting on their Facebook posts. She kept in touch with so many of her "kids" from school. She truly cared about everyone she met.
They were both members of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia, Iowa. Delores was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Warrensburg, Missouri, while Harley was involved in several civic organizations including the Elks, Eagles and Lions Clubs. He was also a member of the hospital board in Albia, Iowa and was so proud of the new facility built in 1982. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour books. Delores was also an avid reader of books and magazines and enjoyed keeping up with the lives of stars and friends alike. They were huge Iowa Hawkeyes fans and had been known to sit in the car just to listen to a game on the radio. They also enjoyed camping and traveling and made friends wherever they went. But Harley was also known for his quick temper so you wanted to stay on the receiving end of his chuckle rather than his sharp tongue.
They will be missed by the many friends in the towns they have resided.
Harley and Delores loved their family but were especially enamored by their only grandchild Tiffany.
Harley and Delores are survived by their daughter, Kim Gudde and husband, Michael and granddaughter, Tiffany, all of Warrensburg, Missouri; Harley's sister, Mary Sue Hummel, niece, Lia Hummel and nephew, Scott Hummel, all of Sidney, Iowa, and nephew, Kurt Hummel of Louisville, Kentucky; a step-sister, Susie Martin and nephew, Danny Martin, both of Nashville, Tennessee.
In addition to their parents, they were preceded in death by a son, Gerald Edgerton; and a niece, Christi Lee Martin.
The family will receive friends at a visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2021, at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Ozarks Kat and K9 Shelter in Sunrise Beach, Missouri or the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 in Laurie, Missouri.
