Dennis Conrad
Dennis Conrad
Keota
Dennis Conrad, age 95, of Keota, died Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.
Dennis was born June 7, 1930, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Ed and Theresa (Woltering) Conrad and graduated from Keota High School in 1948. On September 18, 1952, he married Norma “Toots” Gowey in Keota. The couple lived and farmed in Keota all their married lives, where Dennis raised Angus cattle, turkeys and other various livestock. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church. Dennis enjoyed being with his family, showing pigeons and chickens and buying and selling cattle at several area sale barns. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, known for his quiet strength and steady presence. A lifelong farmer, he took pride in hard work, and found joy in the rhythms of rural life. He valued routine, tradition and faith – beginning each day with a cup of black coffee and ending it in his well-worn chair beside the woman he loved. Every Sunday you’d find him at mass – and every summer, at the Iowa State Fair. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, humility, and a commitment to family.
Survivors include three children: Debra Brayton of Missouri, Rebecca (John) Reinert of Fairfield and Michael (Jennifer) Conrad of Mankato, Minnesota; eight grandchildren: Nate and Chad Chalupa, Gabriel and Cameron Conrad, Houston Brayton, Murphy Grotewold, Conner and Delaney Conrad and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Toots in 2021; daughter: Julee; four brothers and two sisters.
