Diane Alvine Thompson
Diane Alvine Thompson, 66, entered into eternal life on Aug. 30, 2007 in Plano, Texas. Born Aug. 16, 1941 in Mt. Pleasant, to Wilma LuVerne (Patterson) and Maurice Knute Alvine, she was the oldest of four children. Diane grew up in the Bethel Church community and married John N. Thompson, her high school sweetheart.
During their lives together, Diane and John Thompson lived in four different states, including Ainsworth and Mt. Pleasant; Buena Vista, Lexington, and Virginia Beach, all in Virginia; Conway, Ark.; and Plano, Texas.
A high school basketball player and 1959 graduate of Ainsworth High School, Diane studied accounting at Dabney Lancaster Community College and enjoyed a long career in managing accounts for several businesses, including the Alumni Association of Virginia Military Institute and Kappa Alpha Order both in Lexington, VA. She was most recently employed by Petro Chemical Transport in Addison, Texas, as payroll accountant.
She is survived by her husband John Thompson and a daughter Lori Thompson Davis, of Plano, Texas, and two sons, Kevin Thompson of Richardson, Texas, and Rick Thompson and his wife Kathy, of Atlanta, Ga.
She is survived by six grandchildren, including JK and Bennett Thompson of Buena Vista, Virginia; Madeline and Zack Davis, of Plano, Texas; and Jack and Jenna Thompson, of Atlanta, Ga. She is survived also by two sisters Ceanne Alvine (Roy Schneider), of Crawfordsville, Iowa and Lynne Alvine (Linda Cline), of Indiana, Pa., and one brother, Gene Alvine (Linda Lowe Alvine) of Loveland, Colo. Both of her parents preceded her in death.
Diane's truest joy in life was spending time with her family. Diane loved all activities surrounding her children, grandchildren and husband of 48 years. She was known for her hospitality, work ethic and constant support of family and friends.
Nothing made Diane happier than having a houseful of people to cook for - especially Swedish rye bread - a multi-generation family recipe.
A visitation with the family will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, in the Jones-Eden Funeral Home, Washington. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, at Swedesburg Lutheran Church in Swedesburg, followed by burial in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to a college fund for Madeline and Zachary Davis. Make checks payable to John Hancock Freedom 529, attn: April Aschemeier, Thomas McDonald Partners, 1745 Indian Wood, Suite 210, Maumee, OH 43537.
