Diane Arlene Shannon, 85, of Fairfield, Iowa, passed away September 24, 2023, with her children by her side at Jefferson County Hospital.
Diane was born January 18, 1938, in Oak Park, Illinois, to John Jacobsen and Helen (Schmidt) Jacobsen.
She enjoyed tending to her flower garden, collecting angel figurines and painting birdhouses. For many years, she looked forward to participating in aquatic classes. Most of all, Diane loved spending time with her grandchildren and neighbor’s children. She made her home as warm and open as her heart. She enjoyed buying gifts for her loved ones and friends, as well as sending greeting cards on every special occasion. She always made sure to get you something that you were in need of. She was also a good listener and always made others feel special. Diane loved angels so much that she became one.
Diane raised her five children, taking pride in all their accomplishments. Her memory will live on through her family, including her children, Erin Loftis of New Carlisle, Indiana; Laureen (Evan) Durfey of Blue Eye, Missouri; Kevin (Angela) Umlauf of Idaho Springs, Colorado; Ron (Peggy) Umlauf of Bloomfield, Iowa; Kelly (Rob) Williams of Fairfield, Iowa; her brother, Keith (Sharon) Jacobsen of San Diego, California, and their two children; her eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her special friend and companion, Bob Ferrell.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Diane’s honor may be made to Jefferson County Park, mailed to the family at 10927 Mink Blvd., Bloomfield, IA 52537.
