KALONA ? Diane Kay Spicher, 82, of Kalona, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, in the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 28, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond with the Rev. David Brownfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona, beginning with a rosary and prayer vigil at 3 p.m. and going until 5:30 p.m. The body will be cremated prior to visitation. A memorial fund for the Breast Cancer Society has been established.
Mrs. Spicher was born Jan. 6, 1933, in Richmond, the daughter of Albert and Alice (Kos) Stump. She married Raymond Spicher on Feb. 20, 1954, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond.
She attended Kalona High School. She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and enjoyed painting, reading, gardening, cooking, baking, playing cards and spending time with her family.
Surviving are seven children, Dawn Spicher of Kalona, Robin McLaughlin and husband Jerry of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Valerie Spicher of Lawrence, Kansas, Cindy Surly and husband Rick of Kalona, Crystal Freese and husband Jim of Riverside, Andrew Spicher and wife Shelia of Prior Lake, Minnesota, and Barry Spicher and wife Amy of Iowa City; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and seven siblings, Mary Ann Mellinger, Lola Hogan and husband Lee, Pat Beranek, Barb Strickler and husband Sherwood, Jean Westerbeck, Judy Allen and husband Vere, and Sally Hamilton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond, on Dec. 1, 2010; and six siblings.
