Dilys Margaret Varney went to join her beloved husband, Bob, on Jan. 22, 2020.

She was born Dilys Margaret Coles on June 30, 1926, in Barry South Wales. She met her husband, Robert Charles Varney, of Washington, Iowa, during World War II and was always proud to say, "I'm a War Bride." She was very patriotic and loved her adopted country but always ready to tell of being from "the old country."

Dilys was dearly loved by her husband until he passed away in 1996, after 51 years of marriage. She believed in Christ as her Savior and lived a full life of love which nurtured a close knit family. Dilys was the last in a generation of family with pride in their work and self. She will be forever missed by her four children, Dave and Ruth (Raschke) Varney, Carol and Ray Gordon, Linda Varney and Glynis Varney, which includes 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Until we meet again, Mom, keep the Yahtzee dice warm!

Visitation for Dilys will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Following the funeral service, interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa.
