Dixie Lee Richardson, 71, of Richland, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Born on October 9, 1953, in Fairfield to Kevin Dean and Donna Lois Emonin Hinshaw, Dixie was a woman of many talents and boundless love.
Growing up on the family farm, Dixie spent much of her childhood at her grandmother’s home in Richland, where she developed a deep connection to her roots and community. She graduated from Pekin High School in 1972 and began working at Winfrey’s in Fairfield. Dixie’s nurturing spirit led her to care for her grandmothers in Fairfield and Richland, and later, she ran a daycare from her home for many years. She married Nichloas Edward Richardson on July 18, 1992 in the Richland Friends Church.
A lifelong member of the Richland Friends Church, Dixie was dedicated to her faith and community. She taught Sunday school and helped with Bible school, touching the lives of many children and families.
Dixie had a passion for genealogy and history, which she expressed through her writing. She authored several books, including “Glimpses of Yesterday,” a cemetery research book for Richland, and other works about the small surrounding towns and their people. Her love for reading, cooking, and working around the family farm were well-known, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
Dixie is survived by her loving husband, Nicholas; her son, Jerrod Richardson (Sarah Warner); her brother, Dennis Hinshaw (Jackie); her sister, Jeannie Pedrick; her sisters-in-law, Linda Hinshaw and Kim Rhoads (Mark); and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Joyce and Ronald Richardson, and her brother-in-law, Jeff Pedrick.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield, with Pastor Jerry Hoover officiating. Visitation were held an hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial immediately followed the service in Friends Cemetery in Richland.
