Dolores “Dot” Marie (Hogarth) Cassidy, 93, passed away on Monday, April 15 in Davenport, IA, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral Service and Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport, IA. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dot is the beloved mother of five children and she is survived by Maureen (Rick), Ann (Bob), Mike (Rose), Patti, and Sean (Lara) and seven grandchildren, Stephanie Coy, Justin (Gisela) Coy, Zach Pfiffner (Megan), Rachel (Joey) Moeller, Kirsten Vanderwerf, Matthew Vanderwerf and Catherine Cassidy, in addition to seven great-grandchildren, Brayden Coy, Amelia Coy, Wyatt Moeller, Mason Moeller, Adler Moeller, Addy Pfiffner and Carson Pfiffner.

Dot was born in 1930 in Davenport to John Cecil Hogarth and Helen (Slattery) Hogarth, attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School and graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1947. She attended Marycrest College and married John F. Cassidy, from Ohio, Illinois in 1950, raising her family in Monmouth, Illinois, and Dubuque, Waterloo, Sigourney and Centerville, Iowa until John’s death in 1980. Besides raising her children she taught piano lessons and passed on her love of music. Dot returned to school after her husband’s death and received a BA in Psychology in 1984 from Truman State (MO) and BSW from Kearney State College (NE) in 1987, where she had moved to be closer to her oldest daughter and family. She embarked upon a successful career in social work for the next two decades, including as part-owner of ResCare, Inc., a provider of mental health case management in southeastern Iowa until retiring in 1995. After retirement she spent time with family, friends, and her long-time, loving companion, Delmar Holtz. She traveled with friends to Europe, Alaska and various places in the U.S., was active in her church, tutored reading to elementary children and continued to attend musical events. She visited her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren often, until Parkinson’s Disease no longer allowed her to travel. She returned to Davenport in 2015 to be near her daughter Ann and family, but maintained contact with friends, some she had for over 50-70 years. What Dot enjoyed most of all though was time spent with her loving family. Dot was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, a half-brother, Joseph Kregel and loving companion, Delmar Holtz.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Sacred Heart’s Minnie’s Maison Clothing Center (https://www.clothingcenterqca.org), which is across the street, from where decades ago, Dot as a young girl lived with her mother. The John and Dot Cassidy Scholarship Fund was established within the Centerville Community Schools Foundation, by her children, to honor the public service of Dot and her late husband John.
