DON ROBERT "BOB" SAVAGE

Stillwater, Okla.

Don Robert "Bob" Savage, 82, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, formally of Salem, passed away on Thursday, October 15th, 2020 in the comfort of his home near Perkins, Oklahoma.

Don was born on June 22, 1938, in Quincy, Illinois to Myra Alice (Middleton) Savage and Donald Mark Savage. Don was united in marriage to Jacqui, on August 3, 1968.

Don was in the last class (kindergarten) to attend a one room school on the family farm. He attended elementary school through his sophomore year of high school in Salem, Iowa, completing his high school degree in Mount Pleasant in 1956. Active in 4H throughout his childhood, Don showed livestock at local county fairs and at the Iowa State Fair. He was always interested in wildlife and biology. In April 1956, he enlisted in the Army Reserve for an 8-year period, during which several years were of Active duty. Don pursued a degree in Biology at Iowa Wesleyan College which he achieved in 1966 and was awarded the Jacques Scholarship. While he was in college he helped lay track for the Midwest Central Railroad. He earned his PhD at Oklahoma State University and went to work for the University, managing public recreational lake use of Lake Carl Blackwell until his retirement in 1998.

Don was very active in the Boy Scouts of America. He supported a Scout Troop in Iowa for a year and while at OSU was recruited to be an Assistant Scoutmaster at Troop 820. Since the mid 1980's he has been on nearly every Ouachita Trek until the event was cancelled. He served Cimarron Council as a District Commissioner after attending Philmont College of Commissioner Science.

Don is survived by his loving wife of over 52 years, Jacqui; son Eric (Stillwater) and his wife Courtney with children Corinne and Elaina; daughter Robin (Paramus NJ) and husband Lou with children Emily, Erik, Sebastian and Savanna; sister, Mary Alice Savage of Salem, brother, Tom (Sharon) Savage of Muscatine, sister, Margaret (Sam) Carlson of Mt. Pleasant.

His family will host a Celebration of his Life on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Salem Community Center in Salem, Iowa.
