Don Harlan Siegle, age 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, November 30, 2018, at Halcyon House in Washington.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Military Honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will be held in conjunction with the service at the funeral home. The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Private family interment will be held at a later date at Elm Grove Cemetery. Don was born November 2, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John and Jean (Longwell) Siegle. He attended school in Washington, Iowa, and graduated from Washington High School in 1948. Don was united in marriage to Dolores Magdefrau on October 30, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa
Don worked as an auto mechanic for Perdock Motors for several years and later worked as a farm hand for Don Sheetz. He worked at McCleery Cumming Co. and owned and operated Siegle's Mobile Service Station. He spent nearly 40 years in the National Guard and the Army Reserves. After retiring from his Civil Service job, Don worked for the Washington County Mini Bus and operated Siegle Saw Shop. He was a member of the Washington Lions Club and volunteered as a ticket taker for the Washington County Fair. Don also volunteered at art festivals and RAGBRAI events.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Siegle of Washington, Iowa; son, Gary Siegle of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; daughter, Barb Swift and husband Craig of Washington, Iowa; six grandchildren: Summer Siegle, Joe Siegle and wife Katie, Brian Cady and wife Jodie; Leighton Cady and wife Cindy; Denise Rhodes; and Debbie Brei and husband Matt; great-grandchildren: Tyler, Walter, Logan, Colton, Jessie, Jakob, Aaron and Sarah; and great-great-grandson, Jayden. Don is also survived by one sister, Joan Rich and husband Jim of Washington, Iowa.
Don was preceded in death by his mother and step dad, Jean and Joe Lang.
