Donald Dean Ruplinger was born September 24, 1934, near South English, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Velma (Higgins) Ruplinger. He graduated from Kinross High School and went on to serve in the US Army Reserves for 5 years. Don was united in marriage to Lelia Mae Fenwick on June 29, 1957. He worked at the English Valleys’ Co-op Creamery Association until they closed. He then went on to work for the Iowa County Road Department. After retirement he drove truck for Cox Sanitation. Don was a member of the North English Christian Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, target shooting, playing cards, going to the casino, and doing things on the farm with Carl and Greg. He was so proud of all of his nieces and nephews, and they always made sure he was included in every special dinner. He loved spending time with his daughter at least weekly and he called daily to make sure everything was okay. Don died on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, at the age of 90 years.
He is survived by his daughter Virginia (Randy) Boshart of Washington; niece and nephews Cheryl “Cherrie” Hervey of South English, Gregory (Monica) Klipp of Webster and Kenneth (Justin Goldthorpe) Klipp of North English; great-nephew and -nieces Michael (Denise) Hervey, Cindy Menke, Brande (Steve) Rauch, Sarah (Josh) Hettinger, Becky (Kevin) Adrian and Ashley (Chris) Leinen; and several great-great-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded by his parents, wife, sister & brother-in-law Patricia & Carl Klipp and a nephew-in-law Edward Hervey.
Funeral Service was held 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Burial will be held in the North English Cemetery. Visitation was held on Tuesday, from 10:00 am until service time. Memorials may be given to Washington County Hospice. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
