DONALD "DON" WAYNE KERNS

Donald "Don" Wayne Kerns, 59, of Crawfordsville, died Saturday, April 25, 2020, surrounded by his family. Due to the state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will be having public services at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to A.B.A.T.E. of Iowa in Don's name. Beatty Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Don was born Oct. 10, 1960, in Oelwein, Iowa, the son of Grant Louis Kerns and Karen Anne Speed. He spent his younger years in Sumner, Iowa, where he attended school. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in '77 and later the Army National Guard. Don worked various jobs over the years including the packing house and the University of Iowa. He enjoyed motorcycles, the Kansas City Chiefs and spending time with his family and friends.

Don is survived by his mother, Karen Yungtum of Sumner; wife, Cari Kerns; children, Tyson (Jenny) of Elko, Nev., Leslie (James) of Crawfordsville and Emily (Avery) of St. Joseph, Mo.; nine siblings; five grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Don was preceded in death by his father; stepfathers, Marvin Pollow and Jim Yungtum; brother-in-law, Todd Kasemeier; and cousin, Darin Schoultz.
