Donald E. Brooks

Donald Edward Brooks, 83, formerly of Ottumwa, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Pleasant Manor Care Center of Mt. Pleasant.

Visitation began at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 28, at Reece Funeral Home of Ottumwa, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, with the Rev. Gary W. Sneller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Manor Care Center.

He was born Feb. 18, 1924 in Wapello County, the son of William and Mary Townsley Brooks. On April 25, 1942, he married Adelene Prosser; she preceded him in death. On Nov. 26, 1988, he married Vera Harrelson.

He had worked for Pangborn Tire, owned and operated Phillips 66 station on Church St. and retired from Black's Tire in 1988. He was a member of First Christian Church, Ottumwa Fellowship of Churches and Ottumwa Outreach.

He is survived by three daughters, Gloria Jean Miller of Omaha, Neb., Nancy Baldosier and her husband Larry of Lockridge, and Sharon Fryman and her husband Kenny of Falmouth, Ky.; two sons, Keith Brooks and his wife Michelle of Oskaloosa and Gary Brooks and his wife Denita of Ottumwa; his sister, Helen Burns and her husband Robert of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

His parents, sister, Ruthann Yeoman Rockett and brother Melvyn Brooks preceded him in death.
