Donald E. Shepp

      Donald E. Shepp, 87, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.

      The funeral service was 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at the McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco, Texas. Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home with the family present from 4 to 5 p.m. Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Weslaco, Harlingen Christian Church, or the charity of the donor?s choice.

      Mr. Shepp was born Sept. 19, 1913, graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and Iowa Wesleyan College, and moved to the lower Rio Grande valley in 1955. He worked in the produce and citrus industry, primarily for McManus Produce Company and Texas Citrus Exchange, until retiring in 1982. He was inducted into the Texas Citrus and Vegetable Hall of Fame on Nov. 10, 1992. He was active as an elder in the Weslaco Christian Church and an avid golfer after retirement.

      Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mildred; a daughter, Mary Jayne and Larry Smith, of Calallen, Texas; a son, Bill and Terry Shepp of Kelso, Wash.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
