Donald James Fillinger, 76, of Lockridge, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Donald was born on Sept. 29, 1943, in Fairfield, the son of Gilbert and Lucille (Spray) Fillinger. He attended Victory Number 8 country school and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1962. He joined the Army Reserves for six years. Donald was united in marriage to Donna S. Guinn on July 5, 1964. He worked at Bluebird Midwest of Mt. Pleasant for 39 years, after they closed he went to work for Art Select for four years. He enjoyed gardening, raising sheep and going to antique sales. He also enjoyed spending time with the coffee group in the afternoon but most of all spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Donald was a member of the Lockridge Baptist Church, where he served as trustee and usher for a number of years. He also served on the board for the Victory Number 8 School.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna of Lockridge; his grandchildren, Cierra Fillinger, Liaden Fillinger, Aubriana Fillinger, Lincoln Fillinger and Ellie Fillinger; two special girls, Maddie Wagner and Alayna Wagner, who was a part of his life; his brothers, Gary (Linda) Fillinger of Lockridge and Ron (Karen) Fillinger of New London; along with several cousins.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; and his children, Anthony J. Fillinger, Sharri L. Fillinger and Joshua J. Fillinger.
A private funeral service will be held. Burial will be at the Lockridge Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. Memorials may be directed to the Lockridge Cemetery, Lockridge Fire and Rescue or to the Lockridge Baptist Church in his memory.
