DONALD HARTMAN
Donald Hartman departed this life on Aug. 15, 2021, and entered the presence of his Savior and God. Don was born the oldest of five children to Richard and Marlys Hartman in North Dakota. After moving around, the family settled in the Quad City area, where Don married Ronda (Parsons) Trainor in 1982. Don later married Lois (Iversen) Hartman in 1991. The couple made their home in Wapello, Iowa, and later relocated to Van Buren County, Iowa. He was a father to nine children.
Don was truly a jack-of-all-trades. He was continually involved with remodeling and construction projects. He and Lois operated Siline & Johnson Co. as well as a few other businesses. Don was an engineer, a machine repairman, a Harley-Davidson enthusiast, a hunter, an artist, a musician, and an avid gardener. He enjoyed BBQ'ing for family and friends.
He spent the majority of his last nine years living in Columbia, S.A. He and Lois built a finca in the mountains of Copacabana. There Don enjoyed the temperate climate, the profusion of plants, and the friendliness of the people. He and Lois helped stabilize a new and growing Columbian church. Don lived ready and willing to help others, and always believed in giving people the benefit of the doubt.
Don is survived by his mother, Marlys Hartman of Conway, Ark.; one sister, Sandy Sweeney of Conway, Ark.; one brother, Steven Hartman of Lawrence, Ark.; his wife; nine children, Jeremy Oden, Heather (Sadrac) Aleman, Justin (Amber) Hartman, Rachel (Aaron) Albrecht, Josh Hartman, Aaron Lindle, Christina (Murphy) Blocker, Jessica Hartman and Ivan Hartman; and nine grandchildren.
His father, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.
He will be missed by all who saw his smiling face, heard his hearty laugh, and benefitted from his many talents and generosity. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m. at the E3 Center, 1400 E Washington, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jesus Is Way Prison Ministry, PO Box 98, Rantoul, IL 61866 or the Burlington Homeless Shelter, 123 N. Marshall St., Burlington, IA 52601.
