Donald Keith “Don” Tappan, age 82, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the United Presbyterian Home.
Celebration of life services will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Ainsworth Opera House. Private family interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent for Don’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
Donald was born September 1, 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Orville Oscar and Marjorie Marie (Rife) Tappan. He attended school in Lone Tree, Iowa, and later attended school in Ainsworth. He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1962. Don was united in marriage to Myrna Hazelett on February 5, 2005.
Don lived most of his life in Washington, Iowa. He served honorably in the United States National Guard. Don worked at McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory for 41 years where he operated the collating machine. He later worked for the University of Iowa where he provided janitorial services to several dormitories. Don was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he was an Elder in the Priesthood. He enjoyed singing and dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna Tappan of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Kim Stout of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter, Terry Tappan of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Susan (Edward) Moeller of Washington, Iowa; son, Brandon (Megan) Tappan of rural Washington, Iowa; stepdaughter, Lisa Eggers of Bettendorf, Iowa; stepson, Tim (Jenny) Moothart of Atalissa, Iowa; stepdaughter, Shari (Art) Sweeting of Riverside, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; 23 stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Stout of Ainsworth, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Dennis Stout; one great-granddaughter, one stepgreat-granddaughter, and one nephew.
